Baking is not my forte, but I sure enjoy trying!
A big deterrent for me is my retarded oven. I have a love/hate thing going on with it.
Irregardless, the other day I decided that I needed to use up some ailing apples and made these little sweeties!
HUGE hit!
You know that phrase “easy as pie”? Well, I’ve never found making pies to be particularly easy, but these little babies are a snap! I used the refrigerator pie crust and just cut out little circles… put some pie filling in’em (any recipe will do!), fold them over and bake them puppies up! (I do recommend a well “working” oven however!)
They disappeared rather quickly. Leaving me alone… in a messy, hot kitchen scratching my head as to why I even bothered. But then it hit me… I do this because I love it. I love working with my hands, the way the house smells, listening to music on the radio while I cook and seeing the smile on my families faces when they eat it! As you can see… it is something that uses all five of the senses. And that is just the coolest thing to me!
I think cooking everyday just makes a homey atmosphere for my kids to be in. Maybe they won’t remember all the “do’s and don’ts” I’ve tried to instill in them, but they will remember the smells, sounds, sights and tastes of my kitchen long after they are gone from here!
All-in-all… my cooking provides good and yummy food for my family, a warm and cozy atmosphere for them to grow up in and is a healthy thing for me and them!
So… off to the kitchen! What will it be today?
Oh… one thing I will share with you on another occasion is a new mac and cheese recipe I found! Of course I messed it up a bit with my own spin on it… but it was VERY YUMMY! Gerrit’s new favorite!
Its called Texas Mac & Cheese! Look for it in a future post.
Ta-ta for now!

Welcome to my blog. My name is Heidi (hi-d) and I am an artist, a mother to my 4 boys, a wife to Dave and a daughter of the King! I homeschool my three youngest boys and wouldn't trade it for the world. I enjoy knowing all about my kids and learning things about our world right along with them. This blog is just some of what my journey entails.

I can’t agree withyou more about how family traditon will be remembered. Darren was very eager to go back home for your food when he was here. I love it when Kaoru says things like ” Are you kidding, my favorite food is mom’s ….” well, he is not picky when it comes to eating, but it boost my self esteem, anyway.
looking forward to joining you in cooking this summer. Oh, my thanks to the big bro for sending Kaoru a gift.
