They’ve Moved Out!

No… not the boys… the chickens.

Although it is not totally done yet, I was able to get enough of whats left done today so that the chicks could move out into their new home!

Dave is on a trip this week, but I just couldn’t wait until next weekend to get them out of the mud room and into the new coop. So, today I worked for eight hours straight, and got the coop good enough for them to move in. I’m exhausted, but very happy.

The chicks seemed just as happy!

The only thing left (besides some little things I can work on anytime) is the top layer of chicken wire and the roof.

The nest boxes are from Pam over at Life on a Southern Farm. They are hand-made by her husband Farm Man. I love’em. You can order them with 2-6 nest boxes. Pam also sells home-made soap. (I aspire to be like Pam!)

I made the chicken feeder and water dispenser with a bucket (free from Sam’s Club bakery) and an oil pan. I want to eventually make an automatic water system for them, but that will have to wait awhile.

This is what the girls see out their window.

Tomorrow we have piano lessons, and I really should work on cleaning this house up, but maybe Thursday I can finish with the chicken wire.

The boys were not “invited” out to help me today. I chose instead to escape the “whine & cheese” and have them take care of indoor projects, as well as bring me food & water! They did a good job of it, and I had peace and quiet to work in! Oh, JJ did turn on the outdoor stereo speakers for me, with some smooth jazz playing. That was nice. 🙂

So… I’m about out of steam for the day. So, off to “lick my wounds” and sleep!

It was a good and productive day.

Fun For One and All

We always enjoy a trip down to our friends house where they have some property and a lake. Her boys are good friends to my boys and we all enjoy just hanging out together. Her husband just recently built a chicken coop and they got some chickens a few weeks ago, so we were anxious to go see them.

Here are my two middle boys, one of hers and another of their friends… oh and the Kiki-miester!

And by the way… Kiki had the time of her life out there running around! She had six boys to run after, a dozen chickens to bark at and a swimming pool to fall into – yes… within the first 5 minutes! But she learned what it was… and that she couldn’t run across it!!

Here’s Kiki barking at chickens.

Isn’t my friend cute in those red boots?!

in the chicken coop

Although she has some pretty odd looking roosters in there!

(I know, I know… NOT funny mom.)

I just LOVE this photo. I am not sure what it is about it… but if you knew these two little boys… and their adventures… this is just the epitome of their friendship! Off to explore and fight imaginary battles for the good of all mankind!

And the orange cat that is by the tree… she is more like a dog! She follows the kids around all over the property… but when their dad decides to go fishing… she is all over that!!

I don’t think you can see her by his feet there in this photo, but she is!! And I wish I could have captured her walking with him from the barn to the lake! She bounced along the whole way… looking forward to the fish I suppose!!

And what kid can resist a good dirt pile?

Especially a nice big one!

Everyone slept good that night!

Thanks BV for letting us play at your house.

What? Chicken? Me? Naw…

On our trip to Two Doves Farm we also got to spend some time with the chickens!

This was all three boys favorite part.

They are very happy chickens too!

Harrison loved them.

And they loved him too!!

These two especially seemed fond of him! They actually tried to kiss him!

Aren’t they neat?

JJ and Guy found a cute little girl… but I have forgotten what kind she it. (Bantum?) She is small and one that stays small!

She is cute! And they are being cute just thinking she is cute!!

I know… I’m biased.

It was a great experience for all of us! And now my boys want our own chickens just as much as I do. We plan on building a chicken coop and getting ready to have some as soon as we finish the deck. I hope.

I can’t wait!

We want to thank Mr. Larry and Miss Twyla for letting us come out and visit. And for all the good information they gave us on raising chickens, bee keeping and growing good vegetables!

Thank You!!

And now the boys would like to move in with you! Hope you don’t mind. I might tag along and live with you too! I can do dishes. And laundry. Eh?

Harrison said he is going to move to a house real close so he can go help Mr. Larry with the bees, and help Miss Twyla with the chickens. When he grows up of course!

For now… we’ll just visit!
